Social Security Is Under Attack, Threatening Well-Being of 70 Million Americans

Social Security is a lifeline for over 72 million Americans, including retirees, people with disabilities, and survivors. However, recent drastic cuts to the Social Security Administration (SSA) threaten the ability of millions to access their benefits. Plans to slash SSA’s workforce by up to 50% and shut down hundreds of local offices will make it significantly harder for people to apply for benefits, resolve errors, or receive timely assistance. Already at least 7,000 workers have been fired and the Office of Civil Rights and Equal Opportunity and the Office of Transformation have been shuttered. Jessica Craven, activist in Southern California, received word early this week from a lawyer and federal employee needing to remain anonymous who documented 10 atrocities happening now. See Craven’s newsletter from 3/4/25 for more details.

These closures will hit the most vulnerable the hardest—low-income individuals, people with disabilities, and those without internet access. Former SSA Commissioner Martin O’Malley has warned that these cuts could cause a total system collapse, disrupting benefit payments within just 30 to 90 days.

For 80 years, SSA has never missed a payment. Congress and the President must act now to stop these reckless cuts, restore SSA’s staff and field offices, and ensure that all Americans can access the Social Security benefits they have earned.

Donald Trump’s recent appointments have triggered a number of key special elections that could change everything for Democrats.

The GOP holds one of the slimmest House majorities in history – meaning Hakeem Jeffries only needs three more seats to win a House majority. We can’t let this opportunity slip through our fingers. Will you rush a donation of $20 or more to help Democrats win these crucial elections and reclaim a House majority?

TOPIC: Elon, the private citizen, and unauthorized boss of the equally unauthorized DOGE “department” has invaded the U.S. Treasury. Elon and X make money by collecting data on X users and selling that data to advertisers who then target-market to them. Think what a candy store the Treasury data is… It’s where every government bill gets paid, where the data on every Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security recipient, government contractor, government worker, military person, and everyone else who gets or ever got, a government check for any and all reasons, is kept. He no longer has to mine just the X users for their information, he has access to data on everyone who has ever been paid anything by the U.S. government. For years, the Republicans have wanted to privatize, cut, or eliminate the so-called “entitlements”, and now they have the tools to do just that. Vance laid it out. He said what if the courts tell Trump to stop (whatever crime he is committing at the moment) and Trump just ignores the court. Who is going to stop him? We are witnessing Coup 2, and so far it is working.

Leaders at Goldman Sachs, Costco and JPMorgan Chase & Co have recently spoken out in support of their diversity programs, as anti-DEI activist shareholders continue to push proposals that would roll back company policies.

Costco’s Board of Directors unanimously recommended against voting for a proposal from the National Center for Public Policy Research that had called for Costco to evaluate and publish a report on any risks that may be associated with the company’s diversity and inclusion efforts, according to a Jan. 23 shareholders meeting statement.

“Our efforts around diversity, equity and inclusion follow our code of ethics,” the board statement on the proposal stated.

“For our employees, these efforts are built around inclusion – having all of our employees feel valued and respected. Our efforts at diversity, equity and inclusion remind and reinforce with everyone at our Company the importance of creating opportunities for all. We believe that these efforts enhance our capacity to attract and retain employees who will help our business succeed.”

We need to email Senators Schiff and Padilla to urge them to use the power of their office to pressure Children’s Hospital LA to restart hormonal therapy for trans youth. This is a lifesaving treatment, and we need California institutions to stand up to the bigotry of the Trump administration. His policies will undoubtedly lead to increased suicides of transgender children and adults.

Below is a sample letter. Here are the email links:
Please share.
Subject Line: Tell Children’s Hospital LA to restart hormonal therapy care for transgender youth!
Dear Senator XXX,
I am frightened and angry to learn that Children’s Hospital Los Angeles has stopped new hormone therapy treatments for transgender youth. This was an unnecessary, preemptive measure that threatens the health of our children. California is a fighting state, and no entity should bow down to the inhumane executive orders of Donald Trump.
On behalf of a vulnerable population that is being vilified by MAGA for no discernable reason other than bigotry, I implore you to use the weight of your office to pressure CHLA to rescind their decision. Our children need this life saving treatment. Without it, some will take their own lives.
Thank you for standing up for Californians!
Sincerely,
XXX
