About this event:
This a local Indivisible event! Come and share your outrage at the executive orders, at DOGE, at every last thing the current regime and its enablers are doing! We’ll invite Jay Obernolte and his staff, but are under no illusions they will actually show up. In their place, we will have leaders from across CA23 share their thoughts and answers for fighting back. Bring signs, water and snacks! Hosted by Local Democracy Project.
Social Security is a lifeline for over 72 million Americans, including retirees, people with disabilities, and survivors. However, recent drastic cuts to the Social Security Administration (SSA) threaten the ability of millions to access their benefits. Plans to slash SSA’s workforce by up to 50% and shut down hundreds of local offices will make it significantly harder for people to apply for benefits, resolve errors, or receive timely assistance. Already at least 7,000 workers have been fired and the Office of Civil Rights and Equal Opportunity and the Office of Transformation have been shuttered. Jessica Craven, activist in Southern California, received word early this week from a lawyer and federal employee needing to remain anonymous who documented 10 atrocities happening now. See Craven’s newsletter from 3/4/25 for more details.
These closures will hit the most vulnerable the hardest—low-income individuals, people with disabilities, and those without internet access. Former SSA Commissioner Martin O’Malley has warned that these cuts could cause a total system collapse, disrupting benefit payments within just 30 to 90 days.
For 80 years, SSA has never missed a payment. Congress and the President must act now to stop these reckless cuts, restore SSA’s staff and field offices, and ensure that all Americans can access the Social Security benefits they have earned.

Leaders at Goldman Sachs, Costco and JPMorgan Chase & Co have recently spoken out in support of their diversity programs, as anti-DEI activist shareholders continue to push proposals that would roll back company policies.
Costco’s Board of Directors unanimously recommended against voting for a proposal from the National Center for Public Policy Research that had called for Costco to evaluate and publish a report on any risks that may be associated with the company’s diversity and inclusion efforts, according to a Jan. 23 shareholders meeting statement.
“Our efforts around diversity, equity and inclusion follow our code of ethics,” the board statement on the proposal stated.
“For our employees, these efforts are built around inclusion – having all of our employees feel valued and respected. Our efforts at diversity, equity and inclusion remind and reinforce with everyone at our Company the importance of creating opportunities for all. We believe that these efforts enhance our capacity to attract and retain employees who will help our business succeed.”

We need to email Senators Schiff and Padilla to urge them to use the power of their office to pressure Children’s Hospital LA to restart hormonal therapy for trans youth. This is a lifesaving treatment, and we need California institutions to stand up to the bigotry of the Trump administration. His policies will undoubtedly lead to increased suicides of transgender children and adults.
